Introducing Zino, an ultrasound system designed by Mohammadsina Gavili and team, that combines cost-effectiveness, aesthetic innovation, and functionality. This award-winning design is set to redefine the medical device landscape.

Designed for Med Fanavaran Plus, Zino is a testament to the power of innovative thinking. The objective was to create a low-cost ultrasound device that could be used by professionals, making it accessible to a wider audience. However, the design team didn't stop at affordability. They aimed to add value through aesthetic innovation, resulting in a device that is as pleasing to the eye as it is functional.

Zino's unique properties lie in its thoughtful design. The trolley's height adjustment mechanism was removed to save costs, and the 50th percentile dimension was used to accommodate a larger user base. The probe's transducers were moved to the back, enhancing manageability and giving the device a neater look. The combination of a physical control panel with a modern-looking trolley makes Zino aesthetically distinctive, adhering to the principle of form following function. The arm mechanism allows for different monitor viewing angles, adding to its usability.

Measuring 76.5cm * 89cm * 140cm, Zino is compact yet robust. The design team faced several challenges during its creation, including designing a smaller stationary ultrasound device that could withstand a medical setting while reducing packaging and shipping costs. Improved air circulation allows Zino to be used continuously without needing to cool down. The team also focused on creating a strong body structure to save on maintenance costs.

Zino's control panel is designed for those who prefer a physical interface. The buttons are set based on user interviews, user observation, the intensity of use, and a review of existing samples, ensuring optimal settings for the user. This attention to detail is what sets Zino apart from other ultrasound devices in the market.

The project, which started in August 2020 in Tehran, was completed in June 2021. The result is a compact, professional-grade, and low-cost ultrasound device that has already made its mark in the design world. Zino was awarded Silver in A' Medical Devices and Medical Equipment Design Award in 2022, a testament to its outstanding design and innovation.
